Mechanical

Calshot’s mechanical team works across marine and land-based projects with a focus on reliability, precision and performance. We handle full system installations and complex mechanical restorations, covering propulsion, piping, heating, cooling, fluid control and hydraulic systems.

Our experience ranges from rebuilding heritage marine engines to fitting out new-build superyachts and architectural installations. The team is used to working under demanding conditions and understands the balance between delivering functional systems and respecting the fabric of the vessel or building.

The Workshop

The mechanical department is structured into marine engineering fitters, hotel systems engineers and piping engineers. This allows us to deliver tailored systems from initial strip-down to full testing and commissioning. Our work is delivered in close coordination with the yard’s other departments, ensuring seamless handover between trades and clear accountability throughout.

Project: Rita

The restoration of Rita’s 22-ton U-Boat engine remains a defining project for the mechanical team. The engine was stripped and rebuilt by hand, with no replacement parts available and brought back to full working order. It remains one of the finest examples of the team’s combination of technical knowledge and attention to detail.

Sam Prout – Mechanical Supervisor

“Mechanical restoration is a quiet craft. When the work is done well, it disappears into the function of the vessel or building.”
